How to use the grow lights properly.
- First, ask yourself what types of plants you’re growing. Of course all kinds of plants need light, but the types and amount they need to thrive can vary quite a bit—from low-light houseplants like dracaenas, to fruiting edibles such as tomatoes that need much more consistent types of light to grow properly. Some Blue light stimulates vegetative growth (foliage and roots) while red light stimulates plants to produce flowers and fruit. So you need to consider what plants you ‘re going to grow and what growing stage is your plants at before selecting your right grow light.
- Duration: Every plant will require different types and amounts of light. Some do better in colder and less sunny areas than others. Plants that will produce fruits and vegetables will likely need more light. Plan on keeping your LED light on for at least 14-16 hours per day. Keep them on a timer if possible to ensure they operate on a 14-16 cycle.
- Distance: Plants require a certain amount of light, so the distance between plants and grow lights is particularly important. That distance depends on the strength of the light generated by the light source. If you see browning on leaves and leaf edges, it may indicate that your lights are too close to the plants. On the other hand, if your seedlings are lanky, your lights placement might be too high.
- Power Intensity: There are different grow lights out on the market with different intensity levels that affect the power they produce. The type you should get depends on your indoor plants growth needs.
- Give your plants a dark period. Remember, plants need darkness, too. Although plants in the vegetative stage can grow under continuous light(It won’t kill it but we still do not recommend), they would prefer a dark period. When it comes to flowering phase, too much light will prevent them entering the blooming stage even if it has started budding. So provide them with 14 to 16 hours of light per a day would be just fine.
